What we don't do

We are not responsible for:
  • street cleaning (local councils)
  • street trading licences (local councils)
  • street naming (local councils)
  • removal of abandoned cars (local councils)
  • road safety education (DOE)
  • disabled parking spaces on private property, eg, shopping centres (landowner/occupier)

Roadworks by utilities

Not all works on roads are carried out by Roads Service. Utilities such as NIE, BT and Phoenix Natural Gas have a statutory right to lay their apparatus over and in public roads.

Utilities are required to reinstate their road openings to nationally agreed standards. However, multiple openings inevitably weaken the road structure. This can lead to Roads Service having to carry out resurfacing work earlier than otherwise would be required.
