What's new in Whistler
November 30, 2006
Whistler Blackcomb has been busy lately, getting ready for opening of the 2006-2007 winter season.
Other then the Olympic venues, other major construction have been going on at Whistler:
- A new high-speed quad lift, the Symphony Express was added, to give you access to 1,000 acres of new terrain in and around Piccolo Peak and Flute Bowl. The new lift is set to open Dec. 16, as a major boost in deep-bowl and tree-gladed skiing for intermediates, something that's hard to come by at Western resorts. Terrain reached from Symphony includes an expert wide-open upper bowl, an intermediate gladed area and two lower-intermediate cut trails.
- The resort will also benefit this season from a new snowmaking system, another new infrastructure improvement stimulated by the upcoming Winter Olympics.
- Finally, Whistler Blackcomb recently acquired Whistler Heli-Skiing, providing access to over 500,000 acres (785 square miles) of skiable terrain.
