The road network plays a vital role in promoting economic growth in Northern Ireland
with 99% of freight and people movements are by road. Subsequently the Regional Transportation
Strategy
identified a ten-year programme of investment to improve the strategic
road network.
The construction programme shows the major road improvement schemes currently being built.
The preparation pool shows the list of major road improvement schemes that are currently being prepared to start in the next 5 years or so, (subject to clearing the statutory procedures, having a satisfactory economic appraisal and the availability of funds at the time).
The 10 year Forward Planning Schedule contains schemes that have performed well when assessed at feasibility stage using the 5 national criteria (Environment, Safety, Economy, Accessibility and Integration). These schemes are expected to be implemented within the next 10 years or so (subject to clearing the statutory procedures, having a satisfactory economic appraisal and the availability of funds at the time).
