This section of our website contains a variety of information on cycling related matters within Northern Ireland, such as safety, health, tourism, sport, etc, and has links to organisations such as Sustrans, NITB, Sports Council for NI and even the Illinois State Police in America.

Recently there has been an overall increase in interest in cycling in Northern Ireland. In recognition of this and in keeping with the Government's commitment to develop cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transport the Northern Ireland Cycling Forum published the Northern Ireland Cycling Strategy in June 2000.

Education and Library Boards recognised both the educational and transportation potential of promoting the Strategy in schools. So, in partnership with the Belfast Education and Library Board and Sustrans, we have produced a teachers' cycling information pack which aims to introduce cycling into the teaching curriculum and has been distributed to all schools and educational establishments throughout Northern Ireland.
