Festival of Trees at The Fairmont Empress
November 16, 2006 - January 4, 2007
The Festival of Trees is an annual event eagerly anticipated by everyone involved. Approximately 60 trees are placed at The Fairmont Empress and businesses and organizations are invited to sponsor a tree by way of a financial contribution. Upon doing so, they become entitled to send in a team of decorators to weave their holiday magic into an enchanting parade of unique and beautifully decorated trees. Over the holiday season, thousands of visitors tour the trees and vote for the best decorated tree by way of a minimum two dollar donation. At the end of the Festival, the coveted 'Peoples Choice' award is presented to the business or organization with the most favoured tree.

Victoria Tea Festival

The Victoria Tea Festival is the signature annual fundraising event for Camosun College Child Care Services. This one-day event will feature a tasting of a wide variety of teas from around the world as well as presentations on tea topics. Representatives will be on location to provide samples, share tea steeping and serving tips, and to discuss the history and health benefits of tea. Local tea rooms, bakeries and restaurants will be on location to display their menus, tea selections, and provide samples of their products.

See, smell, swirl and sip wine from over 100 international and domestic wineries, while savouring Artisan breads & cheeses at this annual event. Join a wine seminar or boardroom tasting. This year’s seminar theme is defining the vine, giving each presenter a chance to explain a complete philosophy on what they are trying to accomplish from vineyard all the way to the bottle. We will explore the two most prominent growing regions of British Columbia and then attempt an overview of the most planted grape variety in the world.

Misshapen Pearl: The Baroque Era

Drawing on the Art Gallery’s permanent collection and private loans, the exhibition profiles the decorative and fine arts to illustrate the aesthetic of this vibrant and productive era. It will present a range of styles across Europe including Dutch, French, English and Italian and will include ornately carved chairs, inlaid furniture, exquisitely crafted textiles and gorgeous 17th century costumes exhibited alongside drawings, paintings and intaglio prints, including works by Rembrandt.
Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

This travelling exhibition features more than 275 artifacts recovered from Titanic’s undersea resting place in a series of galleries that trace the life of the “unsinkable” ship – from its design and construction through to its discovery, recovery and conservation.
As visitors climb the gangplank, boarding passes in hand, they become immersed in the passenger experience. Authentically recreated first- and third-class corridors and cabins, outdoor café and boiler room are appointed with artifacts recovered from the shipwreck site 3,800 metres below the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean.

To drive his wife's grandfather from Calgary to the trailer park community where he winters in Mesa, Arizona. The problem? Grandfather Bud is 93 years old, cantankerous and, let's say, determined, to get to Mesa without visiting any strange roadside diners or sleeping under the stars. This poignant two-actor comedy has charmed audiences across Canada.
