The Agenda for the 37th Meeting of DPAG is available here (15k pdf)

The meeting will be held on 10th January 2007 at the Carlton Hotel, North Bridge, Edinburgh at 10:30am

The Third DPAG Report is available here

What is the Dounreay Particles Advisory Group (DPAG)?

The group's main objective is to make recommendations to SEPA (and to UKAEA) about ways to improve the monitoring and research programmes for particles in local sediments.

DPAG only has an advisory role on scientific and technical issues; it is SEPA's responsibility to take regulatory decisions based on that advice (among other factors).

DPAG's terms of reference are: "to provide impartial expert scientific advice on the current UKAEA research program in respect of particles in the Dounreay local environment."

It is increasingly working with other groups, like COMARE and RWMAC (see links at bottom), in developing its understanding of the issues.

The group was convened by SEPA in May 2000, following recommendations by the Scottish Executive (the then Scottish Office) in December 1998.

Membership

These independent members were invited onto the group because of the expertise they have in a particular field:

  • Professor Tim Atkinson, Department of Earth Sciences, University College, London
  • Professor Keith Boddy (Chair)
  • Professor Keith Clayton
  • Professor Alex Elliott, Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering, Western Infirmary, Glasgow
  • Professor Tony Harris
  • Professor Marian Scott, Department of Statistics, University of Glasgow
  • Dr Andrew Tyler, School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Stirling
  • Professor Lynda Warren
  • Dr Bernard Wilkins, Health Protection Agency

The group also has a number of observers from SEPA and UKAEA. They attend in order to answer questions from DPAG members and to report DPAG's advice to their organisations. A representative of the Scottish Executive also attends.

The group is chaired by Professor Keith Boddy. Administration is provided by non-regulatory SEPA staff and technical support is from an officer attached full-time to DPAG.

Meetings

Papers submitted to DPAG are not available, but most of the meetings are open to observers and minutes are posted here once approved. Most meetings also have an informal question and answer session at the end for members of the public.

Because DPAG’s members travel from across the UK, meetings are usually held in Edinburgh
