Welcome to some IM Specialresor VOR Sailing action..
There is sailing - then there is extreme sailing. Even though we were on the relatively peaceful waters of Chesapeake Bay - the In-Port race off Baltimore - 2006 was a spectacle indeed as these huge yachts tussled with each other. After crossing the southern oceans, battling broken equipmant, sleeplessness and the white knuckled action of ocean racing, the yachts were still racing for prestige and points.
Racing personalities and Gary Jobson of Olympic commentry fame and numerous yachting accolades treated us to a blow by blow description of the race and what life on board can be like on the yachts tearing across the southern oceans at 30knots across huge seas.
Nothing so dramatic here, but from our prime vantage point alongside the start and finish line where the yachts made numerous turnings, the tactics and tensions were evident. It was amazing - that even after racing all afternoon across the Bay - there were still only seconds between the finishing yachts.
