Palin Responds to Tongass Forest Plan
January 12, 2007, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Palin today reaffirmed her commitment to responsible resource development by supporting the process for a balanced Tongass National Forest Plan. The United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service on Friday, January 12, released to the public a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) and opened a 90-day public comment period for citizens wishing to express their opinions on forest management issues. The State agreed to continue its participation in the Tongass Plan amendment process as a cooperating agency. Details >

Governor Palin Appoints DOT Commissioner
January 12, 2007, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin today appointed Leo von Scheben as Commissioner for the Department of Transportation. Leo von Scheben comes to the Department of Transportation after twenty years with the successful engineering firm he co-founded, USKH, Inc. January 11, 2007, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today offered her condolences to the family of a Wasilla soldier who was killed in Iraq. Staff Sergeant Charles D. Allen, 28, died on January 4, 2007, during combat operations in Baghdad. He was a combat medic assigned to 296th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Washington. Details >

According to the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, 11 Alaskans and 35 active duty service members stationed in Alaska died in operations related to the war on terror during the past year.
