metres above sea level, nestling on the slopes of a spectacular valley encircled
by a panoramic mountain landscape, Casa Danilo is a dream holiday house. Built
with local stone and fully reconditioned, the house has been redesigned using
almost exclusively natural materials and a love for detail is more than apparent,
from the traditional alcoves and open fireplace to the exotic mosaics to be found
in and around the house. In particular, on the southern side of the house,
under a chestnut tree, there is a wooden terrace with breathtaking views,
offering a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty and peace of this Andalusian
mountain region. The property is situated along an old mule track, a few
minutes walk from the road and past one of the last traditionally operated farms
in the area. The house comprises a cosy kitchen, with access to the terrace,
next to the living room which has an open fireplace and sofa bed. The lounge
leads to the front of the house and on to the bedrooms. There is an attractive
swimming pool (3x4m, 1.5m deep) next to the terrace, which is shared with
the owners who live in the house next door, although both properties are completely
detached. The house owners, a German and Dutch couple, are both artists
- a painter and a musician. Painting courses in different techniques, and instruction
in classical and flamenco guitar are available by prior arrangement. Parking
is a few minutes walk away on the road above the house. Luggage transport to and
from the house is included in the price. The drive to the coast or to Granada
takes about 75 minutes. The nearest place for shopping is Pampaneira, a pretty
white washed mountain village built in traditional Moorish style, with Berber
flat roofed houses and narrow lanes. It is also a good place for restaurants and
bars, banks and medical supplies.
