Fraser Island & Brisbane Yacht Charter

Brisbane and Fraser Island yacht charter is a holiday you will be sure to remember. A great place for a bareboat charter is just off the coast of Brisbane. You’ll find some surprisingly good sailing around Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.

Off the eastern coast of Queensland lie the world’s two largest sand islands which protect the coast from the open seas, making it a stunning area to cruise on a bareboat yacht. The islands are Fraser Island and North Stradbroke Island. Fraser Island attained a World Heritage Listing in December 1992 in recognition of the island's exceptional sand dune systems, its rainforests on sand, and its beautiful freshwater lakes. A bareboat charter around Fraser Island will allow you to enjoy its variety of beaches, its many lakes and creeks, towering rainforests and native wildlife. The island is renown for the fishing from the ocean beaches along the eastern coast. Throughout your bareboat charter, you’re bound to spot some dugongs, dolphins, and pelicans which inhabit the waters. Migrating humpback whales also visit these waters annually.

>From Moreton Island, south, the coast is protected for a few hundred kilometers. These islands provide a protected waterway, perfect for light cruising, and only 20-30 minutes from a Queensland’s capital city and Gold Coast attractions.

Marina facilities can be found at Tin Can Bay, Maryborough City at the northern end. Jacobs Well is one of the closest marinas to Brisbane, and Runaway Bay and Sanctuary Cove marinas, on the Gold Coast offer excellent facilities for charter boats. Fraser, Moreton and North Stradbroke Islands all offer sheltered anchorages on the western sides.

A bareboat charter around Fraser Island and Brisbane is great at any time of year. The breezes are strong and constant during summer, but tend to fall a little in winter. The summer months, from November to April, draw average temperatures of 18-27 degrees. January to March are usually the months of highest rainfall with hot days followed by occasional tropical storms. From May to October, winter temperatures average at around 17 degrees Celsius.

The types of yacht charter available in Brisbane and the Fraser Island area includes motor, sailing, bareboat charter, skippered, crewed yachts, catamaran, power boat, sailboat, and even the occasional luxury yacht charter.

Around Brisbane and surrounding areas you’ll find some great cruising. A bareboat charter is a fantastic way to enjoy these closely strung islands, spot some awesome marine life and do some superb sailing.
