January 17:
As a result of one of the winter storms of 2006, a 40 ton Douglas fir
fell onto the suspension bridge. The bridge remained intact! Once the
tree was removed, bridge engineers assessed the situation. The bridge
and cables were fine and acted as designed during the fall of the tree.
However, one of the anchors had moved and it was decided to replace it.
Concrete will be poured this week, taking 28 days to set. Decks were
removed to do this work and will be rebuilt. Re-opening is therefore not
likely until the end of February.
We regret any inconvenience
this has caused to our visitors and local residents hoping to visit over
the holiday season. We just can't wait to be open once again!
