In the historic milieu of the Castle District of Buda there is the House of Hungarian
Wines (6 Szentháromság square, 1st district), established in 1996, which offer wine
tasting program taking two hours. During the tasting a several-hundred-metre-long
cellar labyrinth which holds 450 different types of quality wine from 22 historical
wine regions in Hungary, the wine-expert guides the guests in the world of the Hungarian
wines. You can choose among 50-55 sort of wine to taste. In Budapest Wine Society (59
Batthyány utca, 1st district), Prés Ház Wine Shop and Museum (10 Váci utca, 5th district),
La Boutique des Vins (12 József Attila Street, 5th district), House of Wines (7 Jókai
Square, 6th district), Le Sommelier (14 Régiposta Street, 5th district) or House of
Historic Wines (XIV. Hungarian Agricultural Museum, Vajdahunyad Castle) you can enjoy the
tasting of the "noble drinking" also.
At any time of the year you can wander from wine cellar to vineyard, tasting different
vintages and learning about the production of renowned Hungarian wine such like Tokaji
Aszú or Egri Bikavér, but before you go to visit the wine-cellar in country-side (for
example Etyek, Szekszárd, Eger, Villány, Badacsony), you have to fix a date with the
wine-producer. Some tourist-agency or restaurant or wine society (for example House of
Hungarian Wines) in Budapest organize a daily or two-day's wine-tasting tour in the
country, and during such kind of tour your knowledge about the kinds of Hungarian wine,
the production of wine in Hungary and the famous wine-producing regions become more serious.
