From October 5, 2006 through January 7, 2007, love will be in the air at the Royal BC Museum as they unveil their newest exhibition, Fatal Attraction. This new exhibit showcases the sometimes sensual, often flashy and occasionally dangerous courtship rituals of the animal kingdom. Fatal Attraction makes its second ever North American stop in Victoria and reveals some of the quirkier dating games; along with spiders that "perfume" their webs to catch a mate, fish that light up when courting, and a toad that whistles to draw a partner. The love lives of dozens of species, including humans, are revealed in this family friendly presentation. www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca |

Baroque Masterworks at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
From December 15, 2006 until February 25, 2007, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria will host an exhibition of 12 Baroque masterwork paintings by the likes of Rembrandt van Rijn, Peter Paul Rubens and Nicholas Poussin. Baroque Masterworks from the National Gallery of Canada will feature Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch and Flemish paintings dating from 1600 to 1750 and encompass works in a variety of styles and genres from different social, political and religious circumstances. Baroque Masterworks is the latest installment of the National Gallery's "Masterworks Series" that brings works from their permanent collection to communities across Canada. This exhibition provides a unique opportunity for visitors to see these national treasures as the paintings seldom travel as a result of their age, rarity and historical importance.

This exhibition profiles the decorative and fine arts to illustrate the aesthetic of this vibrant and productive era. It will present a range of styles across Europe including Dutch, French, English and Italian and will include ornately carved chairs, inlaid furniture, exquisitely crafted textiles and gorgeous 17th century costumes exhibited alongside drawings, paintings and intaglio prints, including works by Rembrandt. www.aggv.bc.ca

New Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in Ucluelet
Marine Drive Properties has signed an agreement with Nicklaus Design to bring a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course to the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Set on both the open Pacific and Ucluelet Inlet, the resort will cover 370 acres located next to the Pacific Rim National Park, just north of the charming coastal village of Ucluelet. The first phase of development will incorporate the design of the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and the exclusive "Signature Circle", an enclave of 30 oceanfront and semi-oceanfront estate lots. On the Pacific side of the property are steep cliffs with waves crashing below, and on the Inlet side, are holes that will play alongside a bay or a bluff. In between the coasts, you have rugged topography which lends itself to a great variety of inland holes, some with great ocean views. The resort is accessible via a 90-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo along with a 2.5-hour drive to the site. The resort is also just a 60-minute chartered or scheduled plane trip from Victoria and Vancouver arriving directly into the Tofino airport. www.marinedriveproperties.com, www.nicklaus.com |

Titanic at the Royal BC Museum
On April 14, 2007, 95 years to the day the Titanic struck the iceberg that sent it to the ocean floor, the Royal BC Museum will be launching a six-month presentation of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Created by Premier Exhibitions Inc., this travelling exhibition features more than 275 artifacts recovered from Titanic's undersea resting place. These artifacts will be displayed in a series of galleries that trace the life of the "unsinkable" ship, from its design and construction through to its discovery, recovery and conservation. As visitors climb the gangplank, boarding passes in hand, they become immersed in the passenger experience. Authentically recreated first and third-class corridors and cabins, an outdoor café and boiler room are appointed with artifacts recovered from the shipwreck site 3,800 metres below the surface of the North Atlantic Ocean. www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca |
