You can count on GCI's leadership in the area of data communications products and services. GCI has a long tradition of being Alaska's leading provider of high-quality, cost-effective dedicated, packet-based and switched data communications service.
GCI has linked Alaska with the rest of the world through our Alaska United Fiber Optic Cable, which joins Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau with data networks in the "Lower 48" states, and the Internet. This fully redundant system provides businesses access to the bandwidth they need to compete in today's highly competitive world.
GCI offers three main methods of data communications transport:
Private Line
GCI Private Line service can connect your business locations in point-to-point or multi point configurations using the latest in fiber optic, satellite and microwave technology. Our extensive statewide network offers a cost-effective means of exchanging critical business data, and through our agreements with Lower 48 carriers, GCI can act as a single point of contact for your Lower 48 connectivity needs.
For analog applications, GCI offers 32 Kbps Channels guaranteed to support up to 9.6 Kbps Data, or 64 Kbps channels guaranteed to support up to 19.2 Kbps data.
For digital applications, GCI offers sub-rate, 56/64 Kbps, Fractional T-1, T-1 (1.544 Mbps) and N X T-1 service.
Frame Relay
Frame Relay is an advanced packet-switched data service that is efficient in handling high-speed, bursty data over widearea networks. With GCI Frame Relay you can always count on high quality and cost effective data service to numerous points within Alaska and to the Lower 48. GCI offers NNI and UNI connections to a variety of carrier networks in the Lower 48.
The GCI Advantage Network
The GCI Advantage Network in Alaska is a high-speed convergent network that seamlessly transports data packets between locations throughout Alaska at a variety of data rates, including multi-megabit speeds. The GCI Advantage Network also offers gateway connectivity to the "Lower 48" states.
The GCI Advantage Network is designed to support a wide variety of business applications including multimedia, data mirroring, file backups, offsite storage, transaction processing, centralized server farms, QoS, enterprise IP telephony, video, MPLS VPNs, Transparent LAN, and other bandwidth intensive uses.
