Elephant Trekking
Elephant Trekking has become a popular past-time in Koh Samui as thousands of visitors take to the mountain every year on elephant back. You can opt for either a 30 minute or a 1 hour ride and your guide will escort you to a local waterfall where you can swim and relax and then bring you back to the resort when you're ready to go. You'll even get a photograph to commemorate the occasion. Elephant treks are highly recommended for the children of about 8 years and up and can be booked in the office anytime.
Circuit Training and Self Defense
If you're looking to spend an active holiday and are interested in either fitness, Karate, or self-defense, Sensei Geoff has a beautiful dojo minutes away from Rocky's. He teaches Karate, fitness classes, and self defense to people of all levels of experience. Please consult the reception for details.
The dojo is also available for hosting training sessions for groups. Please visit http://www.samuidojo.com/ for more details.
Ko Samui Golf Course at Santiburi
Located in the northern part of the island, the Ko Samui Golf Course is a beautiful 18 hole course perched high in the mountains. If you love golf, there is nothing like playing with an incredible view of the sea in the background. The prices run a bit on the high side, approximately 4,000 Baht for a round including cart and caddy (mandatory), however if you love golf it's certainly worth it. More information is available here in the reception.
Red Bicycle Mountain Biking
Red Bicycle is a brilliant company located conveniently across the road from Rocky's. Using their GPS technology, they have been able to map out trails across Koh Samui which are unknown to any other group. They use only Canondale Bicycles, which are of the highest quality. If you're interested in a great way to see the island, as well as some healthy excercise, please let us know and we can arrange a bike trip for you.
Red Bicycle also organizes Eco Tours to Koh Tan which are also quite popular. Please enquire in the office for details.
Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo
The Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo is an exciting place for children of all ages. Here you can actually get in the cage with a massive Bengal Tiger... the size and power of these creatures has to be seen to be believed.
The Aquarium itself is also interesting, however the highlight is clearly the tigers. Get there at 1:30pm to watch the Tiger Show.
Samui Butterfly Garden
The Samui Butterfly Garden is a great excursion for the children. Located near the Samui Aquarium, it is a huge net-covered garden containing many exotic species of butterfly. When I was there, the number of butterflies were relatively few, and hopefully they've improved on this aspect. However I was able to see some massive varities of butterfly that were easily a quarter meter wide as well as several other species. They also had a number of preserved butterflies on display for the curious.
Samui Go Karts
Another fun thing to do with the older kids, Samui Go Karts is a company based outside of Chaweng on the main ring road. If you're interested in an afternoon's race on the Go Karts, see us in the office and we can arrange it for you. At speeds of up to 100 km/hr, this may not be for the young children, but the older ones will have a great time.
SITCA Thai Cooking Classes
Even if you've never thought of cooking Thai food in your life, one of the classes at SITCA is a great way to spend an afternoon. They are a professionally run organization which teaches daily classes in Thai cooking and fruit carving. The school is also home to SITCA restaurant, which serves very good Thai food.
