The 2007 Keynote Speaker is Steve Scherrer.

Steve is an American Canoe Association and British Canoe Union instructor from Ocean Park, Washington. Steve works for Confluence Watersports and designed the Wilderness Systems 'Tempest' Kayak.

Steve's presentation is called 'Understanding Boat Control' and will focus on how your body, boat, and paddle can work magic on the water. He will also do some demonstrations and a hands on 'Rescue and Recovery' session.

Celebrate kayaking in one of Alaska's premiere paddling destinations.
A perfect way to get into kayaking or improve your paddling skills. All while surrounded by beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife and great company. Join us in Homer, Alaska for the following events:

  • Beginning to advanced on-the-water instruction. Classes include paddling technique, rescue, safety and wildlife viewing.
  • Evening talks and slide shows.
  • Equipment sampler: try out a variety of kayak brands and equipment.
  • Demonstrations on essential gear, navigation and how to pack for extended trips.
  • Kayak Socials. Meet with fellow paddlers for film nights, potlucks and a fashion show.

Classes and trips are taught by expert, seasoned guides intimately familiar with Kachemak
Bay and experienced teaching both beginners and advanced paddlers. Classes
are specially priced for the festival so that all can experience the
joy of sea kayaking. Homer takes pride in welcoming paddlers and participating
hotels, B&Bs and restaurants provide discounts to help celebrate the
festival.
