| South Asian People's Summit |

The South Asian People’s Summit began on 31 March with a formal inaugural session where leading experts and civil society leaders presented their views on the poverty in the region. The Millennium Campaign’s Deputy Director of Asia, Minar Pimple spoke on the need for South Asia to become more committed towards the realization of economic, social and cultural human rights for the poor by ensuring governments are held accountable for their promises to achieve the MDGs and SDGs (SAARC Development Goals).

Addis Ababa, 4 April 2007 (ECA): The 2007 Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development ended Tuesday April 3, with the adoption of resolutions calling for action to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are achieved in African countries.

The full achievement of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015 requires an urgent acceleration of efforts by governments all around the world, including donor countries. Nevertheless, new official statistics for aid released by the OECD on 3 April show that in 2006 aid levels for the 22 OECD donors fell by 5.1% over 2005.

Africa's economic growth to improve in 2007, according to ECA

Addis Ababa, 3 April 2007 (ECA ) African economies are forecast to grow by an average of 5.8% in 2007, according to the latest edition of the Economic Report on Africa (ERA 2007), the annual flagship publication of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), which is launched today.
