OVERVIEW
About the Site

How the Site is Organized

NASA's public Web Portal is organized so that users can take multiple paths to information. The same content may appear in multiple sections, because people navigate through the site in different ways. The three main navigational paths through the content are:
  • broad topic areas
  • audience groups
  • subject areas
Information by Topic

Nasa.gov organizes the majority of its content by broad topic area. The primary categories are:

About NASA - Information about careers, business and research opportunities, budget, NASA speakers, visiting and contacting NASA and NASA centers.
Latest News - Breaking news, weekly highlights, special events, news archive
Multimedia - NASA images, video gallery, interactive features, NASA TV
Missions - Current missions, Mission Features, Shuttle & Station news, Launch Schedule
My NASA - Sign up for NASA channels and content that interest you
Work for NASA - Career resources, business & research opportunities, how to become an astronaut
New visitors to the nasa.gov web site can find the latest NASA news and events on the home page. Rotating Flash banners link visitors directly to the top missions and events of the day, while the NASA news buckets titled “Life on Earth,” “Humans in Space,” and “Exploring the Universe” contain the most recent breaking news and events at NASA.

If you are interested in finding information on a particular topic, the site’s organization helps visitors locate material in two ways - based on the audience group to which they belong (e.g. a member of the press or an educator) or based on topic area. The following section will assist you with the information architecture at Nasa.gov.

Information by Audience

Nasa.gov has special portions of the web site created for the following audience types: Kids, students, educators, media & press, researchers, industry, and employees. The categories contain the following types of information:

Kids - Games, art & stories, and activities, and more
Students - Homework help, learning opportunities, career info, contacts for students
Educators - Learning resources, professional development, contacts for educators
Media & Press - Breaking news, press releases and kits, fact sheets, speeches, contacts
Researchers - Research, science, & technology news, research opportunities
Industry - Small business info, legal info, procurement
Employees - Information for existing NASA employees and contractors
