Japan Engineers Federation
The Japan Engineers Federation (JEF) is a non-profit organization, authorized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and is the premier professional association, responsible for promotion of engineering and professional practices in business, industry, and government as well as of education and training aimed at establishing and maintaining higher standards of true professional competence. Since January of 2000, JEF has been promoting the TRUSTe Japan Privacy Seal Program in close collaboration with Japanese professional associations as well as consumer advocate groups and agencies in public sector. As of April, 2004, nearly 280 sites have been certified through this program. JEF is also facilitating the promotion of seminars and training sessions, geared toward raising awareness of privacy protection as well as key issues surrounding it. JEF is chaired by Professor Katsumi Hoshino of Tama University and JEF Executive Director is Mr. Isao Idota.

The Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) is a cooperative of online marketing companies dedicated to ensuring sound business practices and resolving public policy concerns in the areas of privacy and emerging technologies. The NAI has successfully launched self-regulatory solutions to online profiling, email marketing and the use of Web beacons. It is also increasingly focused on the issue of unsolicited email (spam) through its subsidiary group, the Email Service Provider Coalition, (ESPC).
