GCI ConnectMD Announces Successful Implementation of Electronic Medical Record system at the Kodiak Community Health Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 7, 2007

ANCHORAGE – GCI (NASDAQ: GNCMA) today announced the successful implementation of the PrognoCIS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) service by Bizmatics at the Kodiak Community Health Center (KCHC) in Kodiak, Alaska. GCI ConnectMD installed this EMR service to function over the ConnectMD network, which is the largest medical network in the Pacific Northwest. This EMR service represents one of the first deployments in Alaska of a Web-based health record system, resulting in lower costs of implementation and ongoing patient care for the clinic.

"We're pleased to provide KCHC with the right tools to improve their workflow while managing a substantial patient load," said Martin Cary, Vice President and General Manager of GCI Managed Broadband Services Group.

"Electronic medical records are present in less than a quarter of clinics and physician practices in Alaska, and KCHC is on the leading edge with this state-of-the-art technology using a Web-based EMR," said Brenda Friend, Executive Director of the Kodiak Community Health Center. "ConnectMD's cost effective solution has enabled us to help those most in need and better serve our local community."

The system is one of the most comprehensive and customizable browser-based clinical information systems in the healthcare market. Designed specifically for the entire clinical organization, it improves workflow and patient safety within the clinic and provides instant access by patients to their own health records, browser-based computer or device anytime, anywhere through the patient portal. The patient portal allows for complete patient interaction and education. It is a secure system with controlled information that tracks access to data through its extensive audit trail, and ensures encryption while data is transferred to partners via a secured socket connection. The system is fully integrated with the Practice Management System (PMS) implemented at KCHC in 2006, an evolutionary step that has helped KCHC complete their vision for complete electronic management of their clinic.

Since beginning operations in 2004, KCHC has grown rapidly in response to the high level of community need. The clinic offers a full range of primary and preventive health services, as well as services such as discounted fees for the uninsured and underinsured patients; comprehensive case management services; and on-site translators. In 2005, the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce honored KCHC with the Business of the Year award in recognition of their role in fostering economic growth in the community and improving prospects for local employment.

As a publicly traded company with more than 25 years of experience and nearly $500 million in revenue, GCI and its ConnectMD medical services team contribute medical networking expertise and significant technical resources to their members. The vast network supports medical business operations and enables the secure exchange of medical data with an expanded list of partner organizations such as Virginia Mason Medical Center, Children's Hospital in Seattle, Alaska Regional Medical Center, Alaska Psychiatric Institute and other leading medical facilities. GCI has points-of-presence (PoPs) throughout Alaska and Washington, ensuring cost-effective, secure, reliable and efficient connections between facilities in both states.
