This fly is used for any Saltwater fish that eat shrimp. Below you will see pictures explaining how to tie a Shrimp Fly. See also how to tie a Pilchard Fly.
Step One:
Use a number 5/0 circle hook or a 2/0 "J" hook. As an option you can add 3.0 lead wire around the hook for additional weight.
Step Two:
Use brown barred saddle skin feathers. Cut two and tie on the rear of the hook for tentacles.
Cut two 1 1/2 inch 125 lb mono leader. Take a match and heat the ends to create eyes on the mono. Tie those to the rear of the hook.
Step Three:
Tie a glass rattler on the top side so when the fly is moving it will make noise to attract the fish.
Step Four:
Wrap the chenille from the eye of the hook to the rear of the hook and then back to the front again.
Step Five:
Look on the bottom of the brown barred saddle skin for a long wide feather. Rough up the feather with two fingers and tie onto the hook at the wide end of the feathers beginning where the grey chennile starts as close to the eyes as possible. Wrap around the chennile until you get to the eye of the hook.
Step Six:
Trim the feathers close to the chennile both sides and the top so that it leaves the bottom appearing like leggs.
Step Seven:
Pick the back feathers on the feasant to make your tail for the shrimp. Tie these onto the eye of the hook.
