The Bicycle Alliance is powered by VOLUNTEERS

We work for you, but also, we NEED you. We need advocates in every county across the state. We have an ongoing need for office volunteers: data entry, filing and other tasks always need to get done. Our annual auction would not happen without over 100 people giving generously of their time. And there are always special tasks for special skills that can help the cause of bicycling in Washington. Your skill can help bicyclists across the state!
Call or email Mark if you would like to help out.

Volunteer Spotlight

Every Thursday evening, rain or shine, you can find legal assistant Susan Hiles at the Bicycle Alliance office working hard on membership. Susan is an STP rider who has started commuting by bike from her Bellevue home to downtown Seattle several times a week. For over 4 years Susan has been committed to BAW and to helping bicyclists across the state of Washington have a more bike friendly state. It's a huge, detailed job and Susan is very good at it, staying until it's finished (sometimes ridiculously late!). We really don't know what we would do without Susan.

Bike Alliance Work parties

The easiest way to get involved is to come to our monthly volunteer work PARTY. On the last Thursday of each month 1pm to 8pm we have a workparty with socializing, lots and lots of yummy goodies (chocolate is a specialty), and working to further bicycle advocacy in Washington. We would love to have you join us. Drop in on the last Thursday afternoon or evening (please call first if you will be coming in the evening). We need your help. Call or email Mark to RSVP, to get directions or to get more information.

Upcoming workparty dates:

  • April 26th
  • May 31st
  • June 28th

Find your Legislator

Use the District Finder tool on the Washington State Legislature's home page to find your district representatives.

Lobby Day

Every spring, the Bicycle Alliance of Washington coordinates a "Lobby Day" where bicyclists meet with their elected representatives to convey the importance of passing legislation to improve conditions for bicyclists.

Lobby Day on Feb 6th 2007 was a HUGE SUCCESS. Over 130 volunteer advocates talked with legislators about:

  • Carbon Assessments
  • Mobility Education
  • Improved Transportation goals
  • Complete streets

Learn more about the Bicycle Alliance's efforts to pass Legislation improving conditions for bicyclists. Your efforts will pay off in better laws for cyclists across the state.

Legislative Steering Committee

The Bicycle Alliance Board has authorized the creation of the Legislative Steering Committee to act in an advisory capacity to the Board in establishing a legislative and statewide advocacy agenda. The committe will: identify issues and opportunities, establish priorities, make recommendation to and obtain approval from the Board, and then implement an appropriate action plan. For more details, see the Legislative Steering Committee Charter [pdf].
