Funding
for research and other projects is available through a variety of
sources ranging from private foundations to federal agencies. It is
important to have a clear definition of what you're looking for before
starting your search. You and your project may meet the eligibility
requirements for a number of different programs. However, you must
first identify what these opportunities are and where to find them.
As a starting point for your
search, we have divided funding opportunities into Internal and External
Opportunities. Please follow the links below to find out more
information on each.

New Award Program for Cancer Research
The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation is proud to announce an
exciting new award program, the Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation
Award. This award is specifically designed to provide funding for
extraordinary early career researchers who have an innovative new idea
but lack sufficient preliminary data to obtain traditional funding. The
research supported by the award must be novel, exceptionally creative
and, if successful, have the strong potential for high impact in the
cancer field.
The awards will provide $450,000 in direct costs during a three year
award term and a maximum of 5 awards will be granted each year. No
indirect costs will be covered. Applicants must be conducting
independent research and belong to one of the following categories:
1) Assistant Professors (tenure-track) or equivalent within the first
three years of obtaining their initial Assistant Professor position; 2)
Clinical Instructors (or equivalent) and Senior Clinical Fellows who are
pursuing a period of independent research before taking a faculty
position; or, 3) Senior Postdoctoral Fellows and highly motivated recent
PhD and MD graduates (e.g., Whitehead Fellows, Cold Spring Harbor
Fellows, Beckman Fellows) who are pursuing a period of independent
research before taking a faculty position.
The deadline for pre-proposals is June 1, 2007. Complete guidelines
and application information are available at
http://www.drcrf.org.
The Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program
(PCRP)
The overall goal of the PCRP is to find and fund innovative, high impact
research that seeks to (1) prevent prostate cancer, (2) detect prostate
cancer, (3) cure prostate cancer, and (4) improve the quality of life
for individuals living with prostate cancer and for their families.
Clinical Trial Awards: The PCRP Clinical Trial Award Awards supports
rapid execution of Phase I, Phase I/II, or Phase II clinical trials of
novel interventions (e.g., drugs, biologics, and devices) with the
potential to have a significant impact on prostate cancer prevention,
detection, diagnosis, or treatment. Exploratory clinical trials may be
submitted, but they must be accompanied by a Phase I Clinical Trial.
Pre-application (LOI) deadline is July 19, 2007. The deadline
for submitting proposals is August 9, 2007. For more details, go
