The Bicycle Alliance of Washington is involved in several ongoing programs that
promote bicycling for transportation.
Bike Buddy Program
After a one-year hiatus, the Bicycle Alliance has resumed the
Bike Buddy Program that matches experienced bicycle commuters with
those looking for tips and guidance in learning how to use their bicycle for transportation.
Safe Routes to School Program
Feet First and the
Bicycle Alliance of Washington are working together to make walking and
biking to school safe, practical, and fun. A 2006 Transportation Enhancements grant from the
Washington State Department of Transportation enabled us to form the
Center for Safe Routes to School in Washington State.

Complete Streets
The streets of our cities and towns ought to be for everyone, whether young or old, motorist or
bicyclist, walker or wheelchair user, bus rider or shopkeeper.
"COMPLETE STREETS" are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. Pedestrians,
bicyclists, motorists and bus riders of all ages and abilities are able to safely move along and
across a complete street.
Trails
In addition to improving conditions for bicyclists that use the streets, the Bicycle Alliance
is also involved in efforts to build, improve, and maintain bike trails.

Legislation
Making Washington State more bike-friendly often necessitates new laws or modifications to
existing laws.
Legislative Activities:
- The Legislative Steering Committee
acts in an advisory capacity to the Board in establishing a legislative and statewide advocacy agenda.
- Every year, staff and volunteers from the Bicycle Alliance travel en masse to Olympia to
participate in "Lobby Day". This year, Transportation Lobby Day in Olympia was February 6th.

Metro Lost Bikes
The Bicycle Alliance of Washington administers the "Lost Bike" program for
King County Metro Transit.
