The large, meandering, two-level lobby is usually full of vacationing guests in bathing suits or T-shirts. Two restaurants and a bar are popular hangouts for drinks and casual meals most of the day and evening.

Amenity highlights:

Guests can enjoy surfing lessons, outrigger canoe rides, scuba diving, and catamaran cruises (surcharges). A complimentary fitness room offers treadmill and step machines, free weights, and weight machines, and there is a day spa (surcharge). On Fridays there are Hawaiian cultural activities including hula. Conference rooms may be reserved, and there are three PCs (with Webcams), a printer, copier, and fax machine available around the clock (surcharges). On-site shops sell tropical wear, Pacific crafts, jewelry, and toys.

The Outrigger Reef on the Beach is a five-minute walk from the U.S. Army Museum at Ft. DeRussy. Housed in a WWII shore gun emplacement, exhibits feature historical Army uniforms and weapons. A 20-minute walk from the hotel, Ala Moana Shopping Center offers a mix of designer boutiques such as Armani, national chains such as Old Navy, fun gift shops, and international take-out food. The shopping center is also a hub for O’ahu buses.

The 858 air-conditioned rooms, in three towers on 18 floors, have 20-inch cable TVs with pay movies, video games, and Web access (surcharge). Complimentary dial-up Internet access, coffeemakers, and compact refrigerators. Blue carpets and Hawaiian-quilt-motif bedspreads complement wood furniture. Some simple saver rooms and standard rooms have no lanais or views. All other rooms have lanais.
