CAC Mission Statement:
The mission of ASTA’s Corporate Advisory Council is to:
1) define, in conjunction with ASTA, a vision for the Society that
will include the kind of creative thought development that will translate
into positive messages for the media, membership and consumers.
2) leverage its position within the travel industry to effect positive
change for the travel agency community; and
3) assist ASTA with the growth, development and enhancement of its
brand.
Major accomplishments during the life of the CAC are:
“One Voice” Representation:
• The CAC gained a permanent seat on the ASTA Board establishing
a “One Voice” representation within the travel agency community.
• The CAC has grown to include major consortia and franchise
members and individual travel agencies.
Airline Reporting Corp.:
• Influenced ARC in successful negotiation of rules on voiding
tickets.
• Delayed the elimination of agency coupons, which forced ARC
to produce enhancements to the documentation retrieval service.
Regulatory:
Worked in support of ASTA’s successful campaigns to:
• Secure deregulation of CRS rules, thereby preventing government
“taking” of agent rights to GDS bonuses/incentives.
• Defeat proposed rules that would have interfered with travel
agent advertising of service fees and potentially prevented collection
of some kinds of fees altogether.
State:
Worked in support of ASTA’s successful campaigns to:
• Avert the adoption of hotel occupancy tax measures on travel
intermediaries in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and the city of Millbrae,
Calif.
• Postpone harmful “Sellers of Travel” legislation
in Pennsylvania.
ASTAPAC:
• A portion of CAC dues supported a “charitable match”
program for ASTA’s Political Action Committee (ASTAPAC). As a
result of the matching fund program, ASTAPAC’s mid-year reporting
cycle showed increased contribution levels out pacing other travel related
industry PAC fundraising efforts in more than a decade.
Public Relations
• Members of the CAC support ASTA in various public relations
initiatives through staffing and leadership of the CAC PR Advisory Committee.
