Who We Are

What is the Center for Safe Routes to School in Washington State?

Feet First and The Bicycle Alliance of Washington are working together to make walking and biking to school safe, practical, and fun.

A 2006 Transportation Enhancements grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation enabled us to form the Center for Safe Routes to School in Washington State.

We help schools and communities design, implement, and sustain their own Safe Routes to School (SRtS) programs by:

  • Sharing models for successful programs
  • Providing training on how to start a successful SRtS program
  • Offering ideas for integrating biking and walking into the school curriculum
  • Encouraging new Walking School Buses and Bike Trains
  • Helping communities develop and expand partnerships
  • Giving technical assistance
