I am interested in becoming a home based travel professional.  Where do I begin?

We recommend that your first steps be joining NACTA to take advantage of all the educational opportunities and networking amongst our members.  Hearing the feedback from other agents who all started in your shoes at some time is invaluable.  We also recommend that you visit www.homebasedtravelagent.com and read through the site inside and out.  You will want to purchase the book that appears on that site, "How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency," and the corresponding workbook.  It is a comprehensive book that will help get you started and answer all of your initial questions.

No.  Each independent agent needs to join NACTA individually.  Or, if there are two agents with the same agency, they can sign up for our "agency level membership" which includes two agents.  You will want to use your own agency name on your registration if it is different than your host agency's name.

What is CAD?

CAD stands for ‘Cruise Agent Digest’.  This is a service included with NACTA membership which allows you to correspond with other cruise agents who need ideas or feedback.  Please go to www.cruiseagentdigest.com for more information.

My host agency (or consortia) provides me with education and networking.  How will NACTA membership benefit me?

In addition to the education and networking that your host or consortia provides, NACTA has a number of additional resources for you to meet other home based travel professionals, such as our local chapter meetings and events.  We have close to 40 chapters across the country that meet on a regular basis.  These meetings and events put you in touch with suppliers and give you the opportunity to meet other agents face to face.  In addition, as a NACTA member, you will have access to our agent digest which is an email communication forum that allows you the chance to submit questions and solicit feedback on any travel related issue to our entire membership base.  If you break down the cost of your annual membership to a per diem (per day) basis, it is like spending pennies for fresh new ideas each and every day.  You will also obtain education on successful sales and marketing skills from NACTA personnel at our Seminars at Sea, regional seminars and annual conferences.
