Broadband Internet Phone Service
Web Phone

A high-speed Internet connection is required for both software-based and hardware-based web phones.  The "always on" broadband connection is needed to assure high quality voice reception.

There are many high-speed Internet technologies available today that can be used for Web Phone service. The two most widely used broadband technologies are cable (which uses the coaxial cable needed for cable television) and ADSL (which uses standard telephone lines).

Other emerging broadband technologies include:

  1. Satellite Internet connections
  2. Wireless Internet connections (point-to-point, WiFi, line-of-sight)
  3. Other DSL technologies (HDSL, RADSL, SDSL, VDSL)
