SSL Certificates
Online security is paramount when working with sensitive information. At Numatek provide only the highest quality security implementations and SSL certificates are no exception.
What is SSL?
SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It's really geek talk for a security certificate being present on the website. The SSL certificate forces any traffic coming from a computer to be encrypted and thus virtually impossible for hackers to compromise.
When do I need a SSL certificate?
Any website the collects sensitive information such as social security numbers, credit card information, or other personal information. Examples of these sites are Ecommerce/Shopping cart sites, sites requiring secured web transmissions, and password protected websites all require a SSL certificate. With increased legislature and regulations being introduced regarding online security, SSL certificates will be required for more online applications.
How can I tell if a site uses SSL?
Do you notice when you go to a website and provide personal information or make a purchase if the site is secured? If the site is secured with an SSL certificate you will see a little lock in the bottom right hand corner of your web browser window. Internet Explorer and Firefox are common web browsers and will warn you if a site is using an expired or invalid SSL certificate. An invalid SSL certificate is a certificate that either has the incorrect name or wasn't issued from an authorized SSL provider.
How do I protect my site with a SSL certificate?
Numatek can generate, purchase, and install a SSL certificate for your website. We use high quality 128bit encrypted SSL certificates. The cost is $100 per year and there is a discount given for purchasing a certificate for multiple years. Fill out our Service Request form for more information.
