Norway:
is Europe`s great parkland: a dramatic mix of mountains, seas, forests and fjords. While the country has tidy cities, historic buildings and distinctive artists, nature is clearly its prime attraction. The country has astonishing variety: The serene rural landscapes around Oslo are nothing like the deep fjords along the western coast, and the countryside along the zigzagging roads to Bergen could not be more unlike the stark, barren land around Alta or the sunny coves of the south coast. Here is a country of contrasts, with breathtaking scenery so varied it never ceases to amaze. Witness the wonders of the shifting landscape, from beaches to flatlands and lush open fields. Explore deep forests where sunbeams filter through the leaves giving a glimpse of the trolls and goblins lurking behind the pine trees. Or feast your eyes on the famous blue-green fjords, cutting a swathe through the mountains. In summertime it is the land of the Midnight Sun; in winter, the land of the Northern Lights. Even Norways largest cities are small compared to other European metropolises. They are easy to get around in and have a lot to offer visitors. The city – Oslo`s nightlife attractions rivalling most other major European cities, and it`s unique position between a fjord and the hills makes it an unforgettable experience. During summer one can enjoy a summer concert at Holmenkollen, or order something cold to drink at Aker Brygge. Or take a bike ride through Nordmarka. The cities also have several interesting museums - the Viking Ship Museum, the Kon-Tiki Museum, the Fram Museum, the Ski Museum, and the Munch Museum. Bergen, Trondheim and Tromsø all have strong traditions of local patriotism and cultural conservatism. Stavanger has grown and changed rapidly in recent years, but has managed to preserve some of the beautiful, original, old wooden architecture. Norway is first and foremost a maritime nation, and most of its population lives along the coast or on the hundreds of coastal islands, where the weather is moderated by the Gulf Stream. The most spectacular fjords are scattered along the west coast, where Norway meets the Barents, Norwegian and North seas. The country`s eastern border abuts Sweden, Finland and Russia. The interior of Norway, which is much colder than the coast, is dominated by rugged mountains and pine forests. Part of Norway lies above the Arctic Circle. While Norway is known for its nature and fjord-lined coastline; it has more to offer than breathtaking scenery. Norway is also fun and exciting; walking in the footsteps of the Vikings; riding on a reindeer sleigh; hiking, biking and paragliding; or just sitting back and enjoying one of the world-class cultural events.
