| Husband and Wife Team Share Perspective on Wedding Photography at ...
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - The husband and wife wedding photography team of Jim and Lara Davis-Hicks will be featured on Kingstons Look Whos Using Kingston microsite. The microsite will also soon give consumers and photographers an opportunity to share their unique photographic experiences and explain how Kingston Flash memory cards play a role in their creative imaging process. Jim and Lara Davis-Hicks founded Davis Photography in 2001 with the goal of providing their clients with unique and memorable images of the most important day of their lives. The secret to their success is really no secret at all. Shooting a wedding is an intimate and personal thing, and because of that we need to make a connection with the bride and groom and earn their trust to really create the photographs we want for them, said Lara, noting that this connection is essential to the success of any photographer.
Artist captures the beauty of the Valley
When he sees a good subject, he's ready to snap a picture. One photo of the KapStone paper mill is a result of his preparedness and awareness of his surroundings.“It was very overcast and I had my camera in the car and I looked over and said, 'That's great,' looped around and went down where the fishermen launch," he told the Daily Herald last week.Gasko never tires of photographing Lake Gaston from his backyard. The Roanoke Valley affords him plenty of subjects, and his photography fits into a few basic categories: Birds and butterflies, flowers, black and white, sunsets and nature.“I can't tell you how many sunsets I've photographed over the years," he said.Last week, Gasko showed about 200 of his pieces at a Halifax County Arts Council Sip & See attended by about 100 people, and the new Visitors Center will have six of his framed photographs on its walls.“I think the biggest motivation for me, the biggest thrill is hearing people comment on the pictures in positive ways," he explained.Gasko's love for art began with oil painting when he was about 12 years old.
The Photography Show 07, Apr. 12-15, 2007, at the Park Avenue ...
We snuck into the nicely refurbished Park Avenue Armory during the special "curators and collectors preview" of the 27th annual Photography Show, sponsored by the Association of International Photography Art Dealers. As imposters, we tried to comport ourselves in a manner suitable to the occasion, primarily by wandering heedlessly from one alluring image to the next. An easy task at the AIPAD show, to be sure, what with its 90-plus exhibitors so neatly arrayed along padded gray-carpeted aisles with the 19th-century girders arching high above. The first thing that caught our eye was a glorious color portrait of Frida Kahlo at Throckmorton Fine Art, right by the fair entrance. The image belongs to the Hungarian-born New York portraitist Nickolas Muray (1892-1965), whose passionate affair with Kahlo (in the post-Diego days) is chronicled in the recently published book of love letters, I Will Never Forget You.
After-school program gets grant for class in photography
TRENTON -- The Trenton After School Program (TASP) has been awarded a grant from the Artists-in-Education Consortium (AIE), administered by Young Audiences New Jersey (YANJ), to support a 20-week digital photography residency led by photographer and teaching artist William Vandever. The residency began in January and will continue through May, culminating in a reception and exhibit. During the course of the residency, Vandever will teach students in grades 5 to 8 how digital cameras work; basic photography concepts such as light, exposure, composition and framing; as well as introducing students to the computer program Photoshop. In addition, students will take field trips to local parks to take pictures and will document activities at TASP. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to express themselves creatively in a new and challenging way through photography and arts," said Jane Holmquist, TASP board chairwoman.
