China Masks, magical ritual of Nuo
Magical world of Chinese culture through ritual Nuo masks

This new exhibition at the Jacquemart Andre Museum takes us on a discovery of the magical world of Chinese culture through ritual Nuo masks. The word “Nuo”, which means “expelling demons from the house”, is associated with ritual ceremonies carried out in all of China’s provinces. With one hundred antique masks originating from the most beautiful private collections, dating from the XVIth, XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries, the visitor is invited to discover the mysterious world of Chinese religious rites.
The Jacquemart Andre Museum has once again put together an astonishing exhibition; the originality of the theme and the artistic quality of the masks will certainly provide for a rewarding visit. The exhibition therefore gives the public the chance to find out about the magic of Chinese culture through the masks used in Nuo rites.
