This
exhibition brings to light the reciprocally inspirational cultural
and artistic relationship between Italy and Finalnd. The exhibition
is divided into two sections: the Italy section focuses on Italian
artistic output in the 20th century and in particular on the period
after World War II; the Finnish section is centred on the works
of artists who have influenced Italian artistic creation, or who
showed a particular interest in Italian art and artists. This
exhibition of paintings, sculptures and design displays the artistic
interaction between two geographically distant cultures.

"7,000
years of Turkish history"
Piazza del Quirinale, ROMA
This
exhibition has been timed to coincide with the state visit of
Turkish president Ahmet Necdet and will be inaugurated by Necdet
and Italian President Giorgio Napoletano. Some 43 works explore
the different stages of Turkish and civilisation, taking the city
settlement of Catal Hoyuk (the most ancient example of Neolithic
civilisation) as its starting point and covers the period up until
the end of the Roman Empire. The exhibits include pieces from
Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul, jewels from the Bronze civilisation,
writings from the Assyrians and Hittites and other traces left
behind by classical civilisations.

world". So said Arturo Martini, a revolutionary artist
who lived between the 18th and 19th centuries and was an
avid consumer of art and culture. This great innovator reinvented
the canons of plastic construction and gleaned his inspiration
from classic art to then develop a very personal form of
expression. This show at Rome's museum of modern art (the
GNAM) brings together a refined selection of about a hundred
of his masterpieces.

"Bonnard-Matisse
e il Mediterraneo"
These
two geniuses of 20th century painting though profoundly
different in painting styles were united by an important
and complex correspondence and were constantly listening
to, and debating with, one another. Pierre Bonnard and Henri
Matisse's works await us at the Vittoriano complex where
over 200 drawings, watercolours, documents, letters, postcards,
oils, sculptures and gouaches have been assembled. These
two great artists and art lovers were inspired by the same
themes - nature, landscapes and people - but they explored
them in entirely different ways.

Cabrita Reis' massive and exclusive installation contains a universe
of glass and steel beams in which the notion of space is continually
questioned and transformed according to the configurations created
by the materials assembled. The Portuguese artist is a master
at irrational and chaotic composition and conveys social context
in heightened and contemporary fashion.

"Rome's
cardinals. Portraits of cardinals in Rome from the Renaissance
to the 1900s"
The
exhibition, opened at Museo di Roma - Palazzo Braschi, has
been curated by Anita Margiotta, Giovanna Calvenzi, Francesca
Sonetti. It has been organized with the cooperation of Istituto
Nazionale per la Grafica, il Museo di Storia della Fotografia
- Fratelli Alinari and Pontificio Istituto Missioni Estere
lontano Oriente. The exhibition has been set up on the occasion
of FotoGrafia - Festival Internazionale di Roma, at its
fourth edition about Eastern countries and devoted to three
Italian photographers who between the end of the nineteenth
century and the beginning of the twentieth century have
explored far away countries like Japan, China and India.
Padre Leone Nani was a missionary who went to China inner
regions, Federico Peliti was both an intellectual and a
businessman and Felice Beato was a traveller and a master.
They have left extraordinary photographs of these far-away
countries portraying fascinating atmospheres but with the
good merit not to fall into the nineteenth century exotic
stereotypes. Felice Beato (1830 - 1906) : an Eastern countries
reporter photograph specialized in exotic documentation.
He reported about many wars in a neutral way without showing
commiseration. Leone Nani, was born in 1880, he left for
China as a missionary in 1903. Federico Peliti (Carignano,
1844-1914) has been celebrated when still alive for his
professional activity in India in the second half of the
nineteenth century.
