Grouper

Grouper is the "heavyweight" fish of the bottom of the sea.

Literally, a Warsaw Grouper can get to over 500 pounds. There are a variety of different groupers. They can be found in as little as a couple of feet of water to hundreds of feet of water. It can be an addictive type of fishing if you are drifting or anchored over a productive area.

There are many different methods to catch these type of fish on a variety of different baits. By placing a ballyhoo on a jig and bouncing it off the bottom will attract this fish. This will require a stiff tackle. With the use of stiff tackle the feel of the bite would be one solid thump. That is your clue that you need to accelerate the catch by reeling in the rod quickly before the fish realizes he has been hooked.

They live in rocks so you must get them out of the rocks before they can break off the line. You need to pull the fish at least 20 feet off the bottom before you slow your retrieve.

Here are some tips to fillet Grouper.
