Secretary Gutierrez and Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industry Sign Joint Statement of Commercial Cooperation

Washington (July 10)—Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr. Mir Muhammad Amin Farhang signed a Joint Statement on Commercial Cooperation between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Afghanistan Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The signing formalizes and enhances the two sides’ cooperative efforts designed to strengthen bilateral commercial relations and help Afghanistan develop its trade capacity and private sector. Gutierrez Says Vision for the Western Hemisphere is One of Growth and Prosperity

Arlington, Va. (July 9)—U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez delivered remarks at the White House Conference of the Americas where he urged that growth in the Western Hemisphere “strengthens the delivery of true social justice, which we believe is giving everyone an equal opportunity to succeed.” He also expressed that the Conference signifies the importance the Administration places on the Western Hemisphere. NIST Hosts First Nanoscale Soccer Games at 2007 RoboCup Competition

Atlanta (July 8)—The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) hosted the first nanoscale soccer games at the 2007 RoboCup, an annual international competition designed to foster innovations and advances in artificial intelligence and intelligent robotics by using the game of soccer as a testing ground. The competition between the smallest robots in RoboCup history are operated under an optical microscope and are controlled by remote electronics using visual feedback and are viewed on a monitor.
