Overview

The firm requires that the first half of the summer (six to eight weeks) be spent in one of our offices, and the second half at a public interest organization approved by the firm and in the same city as the summer associate's clerkship. The firm will sponsor two second year law students who are clerking at Vinson & Elkins for the Public Interest Split Summer Program. During the second half of the summer while the student works at the public interest organization, Vinson & Elkins will continue to pay the student the Vinson & Elkins weekly summer associate salary for a maximum of six weeks.

We have sponsored split summers with ARC of Texas, Legal Services of NorthWest Texas, Catholic Charities of Houston, and the Texas Fair Defense Project.

The firm asks that you indicate your interest in our Public Interest Split Summer Program no later than your in-office or flyback interview, and written proposals are due on November 15, 2006. The firm will select its Public Interest interns shortly thereafter. If more than two proposals are received, the selection will be made by lottery. If you have any questions or are interested in this opportunity for the summer of 2006, please notify Jena Ehlinger, Attorney Employment Specialist, at jehlinger@velaw.com . Please note, you must have received a summer associate position in one of our offices to apply for the Public Interest Split Summer program.
