New Jersey Canyon Fishing Charter
Over Under Adventures operates South Jersey's premier canyon tuna charter boats. From July through November, you’ll find us tuna fishing the NJ Canyons out of Avalon, NJ just north of Cape May. NJ Tuna Fishing Charters and Overnight Canyon Charters are our specialty. In August, the Low Profile, our 55' Gwaltney, will be tournament fishing for marlin and tuna in both the Mid Atlantic 500 and Ocean City White Marlin Open. We dock at Avalon Point Marina which is one of the most conveniently located marinas, with respect to the inlet, in all Cape May County, New Jersey. Chartering out of Avalon allows our NJ Charter Boats to fish areas not frequented by the Cape May Charter Boats, like the Spencer, Lindenkohl, and Carteret Canyons. Often you’ll find the us working a scallop boat on the way to the canyons with not another sport fish in sight. NJ Charter Fishing in the canyon is one of the most exciting big game fishing trips around. You can catch virtually every type of tuna, in addition to swordfish, big sharks, dolphin, and marlin. |

New 2000 55' Custom Carolina Boat - LOW PROFILE |
New for 2007 - 12 Passenger 50' Custom Sport fish - THATS RIGHT
Our brand new 2007 model 50' Charter Boat THATS RIGHT will begin Tuna and Shark fishing the NJ & Maryland Canyons in May this year. It will continue to fish in both Ocean City, MD and Cape May, NJ. From Avalon and Cape May, this new boat will run both inshore, offshore, charter and make-up trips. This boat is an overnight tuna chunking machine! Our Evans has the largest cockpit of any in it's class and is fully USCG inspected, allowing groups of more than 6 passengers the ability to fish together instead of having to break up into two parties at a much larger cost. There are only a handful of boats licensed to carry more than 6 passengers in New Jersey area. THAT'S RIGHT is not only one of them, its brand new, very nice, fast, and overall absolutely incredible fishing platform.
THATS RIGHT will be running overnight canyon tuna charters out of Avalon, NJ from September 7 to 15th. This is the dark of the moon week in September and we will run overnight trips all week. If you have a group of more than 6, we can take you in New Jersey this week!

It's all About Fishing!
You'll quickly find, when you step onto one of our boats, that we take this this tuna fishing thing pretty seriously. We will be ready for just about anything when we leave the dock. We'll troll them up, chunk them up, pull up to a scallop boat if we think they are hanging around, and keep on moving until we find the fish. Rigged baits will be ready for trolling deployment, flats of dead bait loaded on for a hot Tuna Chunking bite, and we usually will have a livewell full of fresh live baits, or a trash can full of fresh netted dead bait as well. We will NOT run out of bait and are not afraid to use whatever means is necessary to get the fish to our boat. We carry a large commercial fish box, which will be full of ice on the way out, and if all goes well, full of fish on the return trip, so you can be sure your catch will be kept "Sushi-Grade". Our New Jersey Tuna Charters are one of a kind and you won't be disappointed!

OVERNIGHTERS & MORE OVERNIGHTERS!
We have become known for running a lot of Overnight Tuna Charters, as our crews and customers love them. No other trip allows you the maximum chance to put a nice catch of fish together and experience several different types of fishing all on one trip. We will almost always both troll and chunk on these trips, moving up and down the edge of the canyon until we find the Tuna. When we do, we stop right there and fish. We will deploy up to 2000' of anchor line to hold us over the fish when we find them. If we feel a drift will take us over productive water, we will drift, but more often than not, we will throw the anchor on a temperature break, a pocket of warm water, bait concentration, or just simply an area we are getting bites. This is just one of the extra steps that we take at Over Under to maximize our clients' chances of having a memorable trip. Our LOW PROFILE has the speed and range to fish from the Hudson Canyon to the Norfolk Canyon, and out of Avalon, NJ we are perfectly positioned to go where we need to go in order to put the boat on the fish. See pricing for Long Range Overnight Tuna Trips below. Our base trip is up to 80 miles, which keeps prices low and allows us to fish from the Lindenkohl Canyon to the Poormans Canyon. If the bite is hot and we need to go a bit further, we just charge for our extra fuel. |

New Jersey Overnight Tuna Charter - What to Expect!
Your day will begin with meeting the Over Under Adventures crew at the dock at Avalon Point Marina. Usually, we when you arrive, we will have just returned from our previous nights tuna fishing, overnight in the Canyon. This should be your first sign that you are on the right track. Key to success in this fishery is being out tuna fishing in the canyon at lot. The more you are out, the better idea of where to start looking for the tuna on the next trip. Often the crew will be cast netting fresh bait for the trip. This is your second hint that you have picked the right overnight tuna charter! We love to have LOTS of bait, and if we can get fresh bait, you can bet we'll spend the time cast netting it. Sometimes we'll have 100# of fresh bait on board, if it's available. From Avalon's dock, we will cruise on over to Sunset Pier, where we will stop and get more bait, and ice the boat down. Then it's right out Townsends Inlet, which is the closest port to both the Spencer and Lindenkohl Canyon. Typically we will run to about 50 fathoms, or about 2.5 to 3 hours where we will start fishing. Normally, we'll start by trolling for tuna. Our goal during the day, is obviously to catch fish, but even more importantly, to stake our our spot for the overnight tuna bite. We will troll up until dark, then usually put out 2000' of anchor line to hold us over the most productive water area. We will usually be anchored in about 500' of water, which is right on the NJ Canyon Wall. Whereas, most other charter boats will drift, because it is both expensive and hard work, we will normally anchor. When you drift, you can not hold your depth and have to rely on the tuna moving with the boat, which is often not gonna happen, if there is bait holding the Tuna in a particular depth or area. This should resonate as yet another hint that you've picked the right boat for your New Jersey Overnight Tuna Charter! After that, it's time to get more BAIT! Tuna lines go in right away, but we are usually more concerned with loading up on live squid as the sun sets, Often the squid are around shortly after nightfall, but will become scarce as the moon rises. SQUID is like Tuna Candy! The more you catch, the more you catch, if you know what we mean! We use all sorts of various methods to catch the squid, which is not as easy as most make it out to be. We have a few tricks you'll learn if you come fishing with us....The tuna will usually come in waves, often a good bite between 9 and 11, then another from 2:00am on, depending on moon/tides/bait concentrations etc. When we have time, we will also deploy a rod specially rigged for Swordfish. The Tuna can bite anytime, and often will bite all night, but sometimes you'll get a flurry, go cold for an hour or two, then another flurry, etc. This is where having LOTS of fresh bait can be your advantage...The trick is to hold the tuna under the boat. When you are competing with a bunch of other boats, as well as a sea full of live bait, you gotta have something they wanna eat!. We will also have jigging rods ready to be deployed at the first signs of tuna on the depth sounds, or as soon as a fish is hooked. These fish swim in schools, so the trick is to get several hooked up at the same time. If conditions allow, we send a crew member (we almost always have 3), to the bow, with a jigging rod, as soon as the first fish is hooked. 50% of the time, we will hook another tuna this way. First light can often be the best bite of the trip, if the boxes aren't all ready full. At times, if the bite is that good, we will leave for home in the middle of the night, other times, we will stay through first light, then head on in. We try to be back to the dock by noon at the latest. Sometimes we will troll in the morning, if it was productive the day before, and the boxes aren't quite as full as we'd like. The ride in is for sleeping, and our 55' Charter Boat is the ticket. You will ride home resting in the salon, listening to music or maybe watching a DVD. Back at the dock, we offload, clean the fish, put them in your coolers full of ice and get ready for the next group eager to get going on their TUNA CHARTER. And off we go again! |
