Just a quick note to readers and anglers, your help is needed in donations, water, rakes, shovels, etc, for the victims on the SouthWest Coast of Florida from Hurricane Charley. If you can help, your contributions are needed, and tax deductible.
Lets help those who need it most. Thank You, and God Bless You All.
We did get spared from the Hurricane Charley that passed West of Key West, but did get some wind and rain, and the days after have been sunny and hot, and fishing has been good.
Well, it has been one of the driest and hottest Summers we have had in years. The fishing report is a good one, but the heat by mid-morning is sweltering, and fish are pushing off by late morning, and coming into feed late evening, those are your best bets for fishing.
We have had some wind, taking the edge off in the morning, coming out of the East, Southeast, from 10-15mph, but as I said, it is one of the driest, and hottest Summers we have had in a long time. We have had a bit of rain in the early mornings and late afternoons, but hasn't affected the fishing.
Flats fishing has been good for bonefish, tarpon, and permit. The tarpon are starting to thin out, but there are still some around to be had on fly and live bait.
We have seen a fair number of tailing bonefish, early in the morning on the last of the outgoing tides, and the start of the incoming, the same for the tarpon and permit.
The backcountry action has been good with quite a few reports of bonefish, tarpon, redfish, trout, ladyfish, and snapper. Also, there has been quite a few catches of snook and tarpon feeding in the channels and holes in Flamingo and West of Flamingo.
If this pattern here in the Keys stays the same, the fishing will remain to fish early in the mornings, and later in the evenings to get the fish to eat. Flyfishing has been good, but again, make your trips early in the morning, the fish are pushing off by mid-morning, and coming back to eat just before dusk.
We are using flies for bonefish, with green and white bunny hair, with a bit of crystal flash, on #5 or #6 hooks. Also, crab and shrimp patterns in the tan colors has been good too.
We are using Black Death, and Deceiver flies on 4/0 hooks, or 5/0 hooks, and that seems to get their flare up and ready to bite on the fly, also we have used some crab patterns too, which has been successful.
Please Make Sure You Bring Extra Water and Gatorade or Powerade with you to keep your body rehydrated, and your Elecrolites going, with this intense heat, and the heat index, can dehydrate you quickly with the water acting as a mirror, and sun beating down on our anglers. So, please ensure you have Sunblock, Drinks, and Protective Clothing, to enjoy your morning Flats, Backcountry or Offhsore Fishing.
I am looking forward to a Great Summer and Upcoming Fall Season for all my Anglers.
When live bait fishing for tarpon we are using live bait pilchards, pinfish, and crabs, it has been a fair to hot bite in the morning hours and evening hours. We have been bagging some big and fat fish from 90lbs and up.
All anglers are having fun with all different kind of species, of sharks, barracuda, and of course, the Keys, giant Silver King, and the anglers are having fun catching a variety of fish.
Don't Forget that the Evening trips for tarpon, bonefish, and permit are fantastic too, and a great time to see a terrific sunset, and have a great time on fly or live bait. Great time of the year for those bites! Give me a call or just drop a line.
Don't forget that the Summer and Fall Months are the best of times to stalk and sightcast for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, redfish, trout, and other species.
Also Remember Snook Season is closed June, July and August, and reopens Sept. 15th, and closes again in December.

Tight lines, and Keep Reeling, and Hope to See Yah on the Flats,
Capt. Ann Holahan www.boneranger.com
Well, we certainly went from Spring to instant Summer, and the winds have finally calmed down, and the bite has been great from the flats to Everglades National Park.
Boy, June, here is is a start of a new month, and a new fishing report!
The winds have since calmed down as I said, and looks like Summer has fallen right into place, and the bite is great from tarpon fishing, to bonefish, and permit.
The backcountry action has been good with quite a few reports of big bonefish, permit, tarpon, redfish, trout, ladyfish, and snapper. If this pattern here in the Keys, stays the way it is the fishing keeps getting better.
As I said, the fishing is going well on live bait, and fly has been a bit tricky, but the tarpon and the bonefishing are biting and has been great in the morning and early evenings just before the sunsets.
Winds are out of the East Southeast, at 10-15mph, and the afternoon storms start to blow in off the Atlantic, and later in the evening. But, has inhibited the fishing whatsoever.
I am looking forward to a Great Summer Season for all my Anglers.
Bonefishing has been good, seeing quite a few groups of fish feeding on the outgoing tide, and the weather has been sunny, and warm, the winds haven't been a factor for us for a week, and big fish are being caught and released on crabs, and shrimp. On fly, we are using crab patterns, and Crazy Charlies, with white bunny hair, and a bit of grizzly hackle has been beneficial this past week.
Light tackle anglers have been quite productive in the backcountry for snapper, trout, redfish, jack crevelle, sharks, ladyfish, snook, and of course tarpon.
I would like to make a special thanks to Alex and Kristie Hawkins, they came and flyfished with me and hooked up a nice bonefish and tarpon. It was their first visit to the Keys, and did an explicit job on the fish. The bonefish was 8lbs, and the tarpon was between 70-80lbs. What a great job, and they both had the courage, and stamina not to give up on the fight.
They released for another day of action, and we caught and released them in the morning hours. We also, caught and released a nice tarpon on live bait at 50lbs. Great jobs folks, see yah this fall!

The question I keep getting asked by most of my anglers, is when is the wind going to stop! It has been a windy month or so, and hopefully this wind will start laying off.
But, this is a start of a new month, and a new fishing report!
The winds have followed the April pattern here in the Keys, and the tarpon bite is getting better.
As I said, the fishing is going well on live bait, and fly has been a bit tricky, but the tarpon are biting, and the bonefishing has been quite slow, but with the winds starting to blow out of the South, Southeast, the water is warming up, and the bite should be on!
I am looking forward to a Great Spring and Summer Season for all my Anglers.
It has been one of the most blustery few weeks here, and being windy here in the Keys this past few weeks, has been making conditions very challenging and hard for all anglers, whether they are novice, or advanced anglers. But, one thing I know the tarpon bite is on, and electrifying the water and rods.
We are using live bait mullet, pilchards, and pinfish, and it has been a fair to hot bite in the morning hours and evening hours, on fly and live bait. We have been hitting big and fat fish from 90lbs and up.
All anglers are having fun with all different kind of species, of sharks, barracuda, and of course, the Keys, giant Silver King, and the anglers are having fun catching a variety of fish.
Bonefishing has been slow, seeing a few groups of fish feeding on the outgoing tide, and the weather has been sunny, and warm, the winds have been the factor for us for weeks, and breaking away a few days from the wind, for it to start getting windy all over again.
Light tackle anglers have been quite productive in the backcountry for snapper, trout, redfish, jack crevelle, sharks, ladyfish, snook, and of course tarpon.
Flats fishing has been fair to moderate with light tackle and fly. We have been seeing some big bonefish, but they are sparse. The fish are in ranges of 9lbs up to 13lbs. Feeding on the outgoing and incoming tides on live bait shrimp and small crabs.
Flyfishing has been a tackle with some winds of 15 miles and challenging for even the best of fly anglers. But, productive on the warmer afternoons. Average weight on the fish have been 9lbs and up.
We are still been using epoxy flies, for the weight, using Crazy Charlies, in chartruesse, and tied with a little crystal flash, and grizzly hackle, and the fish really like the shrimp pattern tied on #6 hooks.
I would like to thank Neal Neilson and his friend Jack, who had fished with me on some mornings and evening trips. Neal and Jack, who fished half days with me for live bait tarpon, Neal and Jack hooked up and unfortunately, the tarpon spit the hook in mid-air, but did hook up a hefty 100 plus pound fish, but Neal had the big one hit on our last day of fishing, a hefty 140lb plus tarpon, but played with the mullet, and we didn't hook him up, but they had hooked several blacktip sharks, and barracuda. Graat try, but a mornings of fun in the sun! We also had some shots at a few bonefish, but they were moving very quickly off the flats, and couldn't get them to eat. But, we certainly give an A for effort. Thanks for a great time guys, and practice on the fly Neal!
Also, would like to thank my anglers Rick Lilley, from Maryland, who too try to fish for our elusive bonefish, the morning was perfect, water was on the last of the outgoing and all morning incoming, but we only saw a half dozen fish, and wasn't one of our most productive days on fly, wind being a factor, but Rick gave it his best, and he did hook up and release quite a few ladyfish on fly, and that was fun, and we staked out on our last flat, and unfortunately, we didn't see anymore fish that morning. But, Rick, is a good fly angler, and will be back to try again. Thanks for a good morning, and great try on fly, Rick.
I would also like to thank Bill and Jessica Hill from Maine, who too went live bait tarpon fishing, and did catch and release their first tarpon, and it weighed in about 80lbs, and took about 45 minutes to land. It was a great thrill to have them excited on their first fish, and I was elated to see their faces, when the tarpon jumped all over the channel, and pulled us up to the flats. Jessica was fighting the fish, and was happy to see him released for another day of fishing. Good Hit Jessica, and we will see them again this fall!
Don't Forget that the Evening trips for tarpon, bonefish, and permit are fantastic too, and a great time to see a terrific sunset, and have a great time on fly or live bait. Great time of the year for those bites! Give me a call or just drop a line.
I am really happy that the Snook Season has reopened, and in the last few weeks, has been good, in which the Season just opened February 1st, with the backcountry action heating up.
Don't forget that Spring and Summer Months are the best of times to stalk and sightcast for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, redfish, trout, and other species.
Offshore fishing is really great this time of the year, with hook up daily with several sailfish, and big ones too! With also, daily catches of kingfish, wahoo, tuna, dolphin, snappers, and groupers.

Boy, this month is flying by, and we have a New Fishing Report for the Month of April! Spring is here in the Keys, and the winds have followed from March, we are getting a few days of no wind, but then it picks back up. But the fishing tarpon are biting, and the bonefish has been tricky, but all in all warm days, and with cool winds.
I am looking forward to a Great Spring and Summer Season for all my Anglers.

But, April has started the tarpon season off with a bang, and mornings and evenings are the starting factor if you want to catch and release these beautiful and magnificant fish.
Using live bait pilchards, pinfish, and small crabs, a few of the Giant Silver Kings are making there way on our hooks.

Also, would like to thank my anglers Judy and Mark Huston, from Idaho, they caught and released their first bonefish on light tackle, fish weighed in at 10lbs, and we used 8lb test, and live bait shrimp. Spring is finally here, and I am looking forward to a Great Spring for all Anglers.
It has been one of the most blustery few weeks here, and being windy here in the Keys this past week or two, and making conditions very challenging and hard to get to the fishing.
The fishing has been fair to good here in the Keys, and the anglers are having fun catching a variety of fish.
Bonefishing has been fair, and the weather has been sunny, and warm, the winds have been the factor for us for weeks, and breaking away a few days from the wind, for it to start getting windy all over again.
But, April starts off the tarpon season, and mornings and evenings are the starting factor.
Using live bait pilchards, pinfish, and small crabs, a few of the Giant Silver Kings are making there way on our hooks.
Light tackle anglers have been quite productive in the backcountry for snapper, trout, redfish, jack crevelle, sharks, and ladyfish.
We have been using epoxy flies, for the weight, using Crazy Charlies, in chartruesse, and tied with a little crystal flash, and grizzly hackle, and the fish really like the shrimp pattern tied on #6 hooks.
I am really happy that the Snook Season has reopened, and in the last few weeks, has been good, in which the Season just opened February 1st, with the backcountry action heating up.
Don't forget that Spring is great for bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, redfish, trout, and other species.
Offshore fishing is really great this time of the year, with hook up daily with several sailfish, and big ones too! With also, daily catches of kingfish, wahoo, tuna, dolphin, snappers, and groupers.
I am offering some Great Flats and Offshore Fishing Packages, you can check them out on my website at www.boneranger.com, and click on the icon that says Islamorada Fishing Packages, and Rates, page, and Click on the icon on the very top that says Value Fishing Packages.

A New Fishing Report for the Month of March! What a Great Winter Season!!
It has been really windy here in the Keys this past week or two, and making conditions very challenging and hard to get to the fishing.
The fishing has been fair to good here in the Keys, and the anglers are having fun catching a variety of fish.
Bonefishing has been fair, we have had beautiful days, but the mornings start out cool. Winds are prevelent out of the North, and Northeast, with a slight warming trend happening.
Winter fishing has been quite complete with cool days and warm days, and a bag of catch and releases.
Light tackle anglers have been quite productive in the backcountry for snapper, trout, redfish, jack crevelle, sharks, and ladyfish.
We have been using epoxy flies, for the weight, using Crazy Charlies, in chartruesse, and tied with a little crystal flash, and grizzly hackle, and the fish really like the shrimp pattern tied on #6 hooks.
I am really happy that the Snook Season has reopened, and in the last few weeks, has been good, in which the Season just opened February 1st, with the backcountry action heating up, and not far off remember is the Tarpon Season. So, don't hold off to far in the Season to get your dates lined up.
Also, if you like more information, you can call me directly at 305-664-5891, Capt. Ann or you can call Capt. Alex at 305-852-5084, for more offshore information.
But, what a great way to have the best of both worlds fishing, flats and backcountry, and offshore!!!
These are great gift ideas for the Husbands, Kids, the ones off for College, or just a Great Get Away for you and your loved one, the Keys is the Place for all kinds of Saltwater Gamefishing.
I can put together any great package for you all either flats fishing and backcountry, or Flats fishing and Offshore fishing. Just give me a call and I will put together a nice cover letter, and send a gift certificate to put in that special someones card. So, don't forget to call me at 305-664-5891, and I will be happy to work with you, and make sure you get it on time.
Winter and Spring fishing should be spectacular flats fishing, backcountry, on the patches on the reef, and offshore of course.
I can only tell you the fishing has been good on some days, and slow on others, but one thing is for sure, the report has a variety of fishing you will enjoy.
I would like to thank Bruce Miller, from the West Coast of Florida, fished with me, and we did have a fair morning, we caught and released a nice bonnethead, and serveral jack crevelle, and other species.
As I said, it has been really windy here, and we just got a cool front, so I am sure by late week, the warming trend starts, and may have some tarpon pushing in.
I would also like to thank Lucy Hill, and Jennifer Bushing, for coming down and doing some bonefishing, we did catch and release a nice 7lb fish on light tackle. It was both of theirs first fish, and they fought it perfectly, and the line screamed for about 10 minutes, and we boated the bonefish with live bait shrimp, and released it for another day. Great job girls, and see yah soon.
I just want to let you know, that I can set up group bookings, if you or your company would like to come down and do some flats and backcountry fishing. You can view that information on my website.
So, it has been a fair to good fishing month, and is a great time stalking them elusive bonefish, and it can be quite cumbersome when they are not around, but that is the love of stalking these gray ghosts.
It can be a bit trying on the nerves, but once you hook up the adrenaline takes over, and your knees start shaking, and the thrill of the line zipping out in less than a minute. It is a true rush. I cannot describe the feeling, until you actually hook up. But, let me tell you, that it is one of the most fasinating, and intriguing experiences you could ever have, whether on fly or light tackle, it will have your heart racing, and have a lump in your throat, and a smile on your face, when you hook up!
So you can see the past several weeks of bonefishing has been great some days in in the early morning and good in the later part of the evenings just before dusk, and is a great fight on fly or on 8lb test with shrimp, or crab.
The Cobia and Spanish Makerals have been spotted in the backcountry on the flats in Everglades National Park.
Don't forget with snook season reopening, you can get some great catches in Everglades National Park, using live bait, or jigs tipped with bait, pinfish, and pilchards, you are bound to hook up with these bruisers. With the limit on 2 fish on the species, makes for a fun day in the Backcountry.
I have also had reports that the redfishing has been good also in the Park, and with reports of several catches and releases between 7lbs up to 10lbs. on fly and light tackle. Using shrimp, crabs, spoons, and flies have been the going ticket.
Reef and Patch fishing has been good with yellowtail, mangrove and mutton snappers, all great keepers, and what a dinner.
Winter, and Even Spring Tournament Fishing is getting active, with some Big Fish Being Caught, and Released. Tight lines, and Keep Reeling, and Hope to See Yah on the Flats,
Capt. Ann Holahan www.boneranger.com
A New Fishing Report for the Month of February! What a Great Winter Season!!
The fishing has been good here in the Keys, and the anglers are having fun catching a variety of fish.
I would like to thank John Ploski and his son Jonathon, we had some cool weather fishing, and some big winds, but did fish, and caught and released several ladyfish, jack crevelle, and sharks. But, we had a great morning of fishing for spanish makeral, and snapper. I certainly enjoyed fishing on the light tackle with the makeral, and had our limits by the end of the morning. Thanks John, and John, Jr. Hope to see yah both back in the tarpon season for some of those Giant Silver Kings on Fly!
I would also like to say a special thanks to Dominic and Paula Clark, who had a great morning on the boat. We fished for bonefish for a bit, but to no avail, only saw a few bonefish, but did hook into some very nice ladyfish, and jack crevelle, but the fun came just to the end of the charter, when Dominic hooked up and released a 40lb barracuda, named Billy, with a migraine headache, after hitting the bow of the boat, which he had to shake off a few minutes. But, to our surprise, Dominic, caught and released the fish on 8lb. test, and Billy, was released for another day of fishing, but a rarity when you have that big of a fish on 8lb test. It was quite the thrill of the morning, and I am sure that Billy and Dominic, will have some fighting action again in the future. It was an adventure, and was a well rounded morning.
I would also like to thank Lance and Wanda Rath, who too fished a morning trip, and did hook up a few bonnethead sharks, and a few snapper, and jack crevelles. We fished light tackle, and had a good time, although the fishing was a bit slow, but didn't go back to the dock unhappy. Thanks for your time, and was a pleasure to have you both on board.
If any of you anglers are interested in Some Great Comraderie, and Action, and would like to Enter Some Of Islamorada's Great Tournaments, please call me at 305-664-5891, or you can email me at CaptAnn@boneranger.com, and I will get all the information needed for such events.

I would like to thank Hank and Crystal Morley from Alberta, Canada, who came down and flyfished with me for a few mornings, and they had a great few days on the flats. Crystal hooked her first bonefish on fly, with great ease. She hooked up and released a 10lb bonefish, which took about 25-30 minutes to land, and we caught him on a 9 weight Loomis, on floating line, with a Shrimp Pattern fly. What a way to go Crystal. We also fished for trout, ladyfish, jack crevelle, and sharks, and did well on each species.
Hank is coming back in May to flyfish for our Giant Silver King, see yah soon.
Also would like to thank the Touchstone Energy Group, who came down and booked 12 boats, with me, and did some bonefishing that morning, and we had an array of fish caught, but no bonefish, and had a great time with all that participated in fishing the half day. Our boat saw one big group of bonefish, but couldn't get the bait in front of them in time, but did catch and release ladyfish, lizard fish, and snapper.
Alot of the boats hooked up some sharks, snapper, ladyfish, jack crevelle, and some trout. Thanks again, and it was a pleasure to meet and have you all.
