Beds.org, is the first organization devoted to solely setting standards for the beds you sleep on.  Our mission is to provide an unbiased, objective, informational website that will educate the public about beds and mattresses, including the importance of a mattress, the components of a mattress, how to judge the quality of a mattress, and how to find the mattress that is right for the individual.  As part of this mission, we have designed a set of criteria, that we created from our clinical expertise and our understanding of mattresses, that we believe offers important insight into the quality of a mattress. 

Our Medical Team has been assembled to provide a clear and concise way of evaluating the current beds on the market, so you the consumer can make an educated choice when purchasing a mattress or choosing a hotel where the beds have been evaluated so you rest assured that you will have the necessary support for your body when you are out of town.

3D Imaging gives our medical team a new perspective on contouring

Now thanks Tekscan's innovative pressure mapping technology and proprietary software, our medical team can accurately measure the contouring effect of each mattress and be given a 3 dimensional view for a better perspective.  Of course, pressure mapping cannot be accurate unless exact procedures are followed with each testing.  Our medical team set up guidelines that enable a consistent reading for each mattress so you can be assured that an objective opinion is rendered precisely and without bias for each mattress evaluated.  You will notice in the picture of the upper torso above that Tekscan's pressure mapping provides our medical team with a 3 dimensional picture that can show clearly where the weight of the iliac crest portion of the pelvis sinks into the mattress deeper to provide spinal contouring at the lower back curvature.  This image came from a mattress that our medical team approved and certified.  As you can see the from the picture above, the colors are more uniform and the depth of contouring falls in line with the normal lordotic curve of the lumbar spine.  As you would expect from a good quality mattress, the upper curvature is longer and slopes more gradually.  While the 3D imaging is only an added tool for visualization, it does help demonstrate and validate the use of pressure mapping for discerning the ability this mattress to contour and therefore support and disburse pressure more evenly across the body.  For more on our mattress rating and evaluation process click here.
