Fishing with Mullett

The way to catch mullet is by cast netting. There are four basic ways of fishing using this bait.

The first mullet as you can see has a weight tied under it’s chin with a circle or “J” hook installed from the lower jaw through the top of the head. This method is used primarily for trolling.

The next method can be used for either live or dead bait. Hook through the bottom lip with a trailer treble hook attached further back. This method would be used for drifting or slow trolling.

The third mullet is used for on or off shore fishing. This bait must be live to be effective. The hook is attached next to the dorsal fin to allow the bait to swim freely on the surface.

The fourth mullet is to force the bait to swim closer to the bottom. This allows you to catch the fish that are feeding along the bottom. It is hooked next to the anal fin.
