Are there some items of shareware that nearly every Mac user finds useful every day? A select few come to mind, and TypeIt4Me is near the top of that list.

TypeIt4Me is a "type expander." Type an abbreviation such a "t4" and it expands into "TypeIt4Me." Do you have an address, a URL, even a page or two of text that you use repeatedly? Create an easily memorized abbreviation. Then, when you want to insert the text, type the abbreviation and it expands instantly into the text it represents.

I have created perhaps a hundred abbreviations for a variety of tasks. My abbreviation "hd" expands into a full letter heading and salutation. "Sg" expands into a signature block. And then I have numerous three-letter "h__" abbreviations that expand into lengthy "http://www.etc" URL addresses. For MacChamp's URL, for example, I let "hmc" expand to <http://www.macchamp.org/>.

The TypeIt4Me icon resides on your menu bar (regardless of the application you're in) so that it's always available as a pull-down list. This is handy for the times when you know you've created an abbreviation but there is a slight slip in your memory. You can also print a hard copy of your abbreviations and associated text and keep it within sight as you work.

You create abbreviations either by example or from within an edit window. Your expandable abbreviations work in all applications.

I've used TypeIt4Me for several years without problems. I first installed it on my 7500 with OS-7.6. It performs equally well since upgrading to OS-8.1, 8.5, and 8.6.

Bottom line: If you find yourself frequently typing the same thing, TypeIt4Me will save a lot of time.
