LinkPad 1.0
As I surf the web, I often make text clippings and notes of places I want to check out. And even a 17" desktop get cluttered all too quickly.
Enter LinkPad. This little program is simply a self-described "scratchpad for links." Basically, you drag a link from your browser to LinkPad and then drag it back out onto your browser window when you're ready to view it. Or you can copy and paste to and from LinkPad (I have to do this when using AOL's browser).
Once you've used the link, a check mark appears over its icon on the pad. You manually remove entries with the Delete key.
Although it's chief value is for link storage, I've used LinkPad for quickly storing stuff like phone numbers and e-mail addresses. But any kind of text can be copied to or dragged to the program's window, making it handy for all sorts of items.
You must keep the window active or all its information is lost. I learned this the hard way when I accidentally closed its window and lost a dozen or so links that I had intended to visit. To help prevent such accidents, you'll want to activate the protective warning box in Preferences.
LinkPad is free. You can download the 357k application from the company's site at < http://www.panic.com/linkpad/ >. Put the LinkPad folder wherever you store your other programs. For convenience, put an alias of the program into your Startup Items in your System Folder.
