Coarse angling has stepped up a gear as water levels slowly recover from the bad flood conditions of previous weeks, although there was a slight rise again following some heavy rain over the bank holiday weekend. Drumbad Lake in the Upper Shannon was a hotspot with quality Tench reported. Lough Allen is still in the angling news with good weights coming off ....

Constant high water has dampened the pike fishing in many locations over recent weeks with little angling feedback received. The Ladies pike competition hosted by the Athlone Anglers Association is the next competition scheduled for the 19t August on the Shannon. It was all action last week on Owel with lots of fish caught into dark, including many quality wild fish to 4lbs. Next Sunday the club host the hugely popular Patti Doolan Shield on Owel for those interested in taking part. Some good fish were reported by anglers fishing late into the evening on Ennell.
