Important news for U.S. citizens with pending passport applications

As of June 8, 2007, U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda who have applied for but not yet received passports may temporarily enter and depart from the United States by air through September 30, 2007, with the following documentation:

Adults must present government-issued photo identification and U.S. Department of State official proof of passport application. Children under age 16 traveling with parents or legal guardian will be permitted to travel with official child's proof of passport application.

The federal government is making this accommodation for air travel due to longer than expected processing times for passport applications in the face of record-breaking demand. This accommodation does not affect entry requirements into any other countries, including those in Central and South America

Passports are now required for all U.S. citizens traveling to or from the United States via air, to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean (with the exception of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands), and Bermuda.

As of January 1, 2008, passports will be required for all U.S. citizens traveling to or from the United States via land and sea, as well as air, regardless of destination.

Please allow 6 weeks for processing of the passport application.
