Secretary Kempthorne Helps Dedicate
New Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center at Grand Teton National Park

Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne helped formally dedicate the new Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Grand Teton National Park. Kempthorne joined Vice President Dick Cheney, National Park Service Director Mary Bomar, U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, and Grand Teton National Park Superintendent Mary Gibson Scott, and Susan Thomas, the wife of the late Senator Craig Thomas, for the ceremony.

“Today we celebrate the memory of a remarkable man, Sen. Craig Thomas, the passionate partnership that built this visitor center, and the national parks that inspire us all," Kempthorne said. “Craig Thomas was a United States Marine, a man tough as nails, yet was a perfect gentleman. He loved America the beautiful, especially the national parks here in Wyoming.   moremore

Secretary Kempthorne Tours
Idaho Fire Sites

Secretary Kempthorne with Boise National Forest Fire
Crew. "What you guys are doing is so important," Kempthorne
said to the firefighters. "This is tough dangerous work. You're
making a difference out here and we appreciate it." On Thursday, August 9, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne visited Idaho forests and rangelands that have been devastated by fire this summer. There have been more than 900 wildfires in Idaho this year and the Secretary wanted to have a first-hand look at the fire-damaged areas. He also wanted the opportunity to thank firefighters for their efforts, and to meet with residents and local community leaders to discuss rehabilitation efforts. The Secretary highlighted the Department's Healthy Lands Initiative, a new concept for meeting emerging challenges in managing natural resources with flexible, landscape-level approaches for continued multiple use.
