World Class
GolfAt the center of Bald Head Island's social life is one of the
finest seaside country club facilities on the East Coast. Tucked
discreetly among low dunes and landscaped berms, the clubhouse projects an
atmosphere of casual elegance. The interior suggests the quiet dignity of
an old seaside club -- with antique furnishings and polished oak columns.
Conversations and cocktails are the order of the day in the club's
comfortable lounge followed by a fabulous meal in the dining room.
On the grounds,
sports enthusiasts may be tempted to learn the game of croquet, often described
as Chess On Grass. Adjacent to the croquet greens,
tennis aficionados can serve and volley on our seaside courts and
cool down on our 25 meter swimming pool just across a lagoon from
the ocean. |

The club centerpiece is
a classic 18 hole championship golf course designed by the late
George Cobb. The Bald Head Island Course recalls the early days of
golf course design when landscape architects allowed
|
the land to
reveal its own character, challenge and inspiration. A long mature
course, it offers a refreshing opportunity for golfers to experience
the game the way that it was originally intended to be played.
|
With a slope
rating of 143, the 6,855 yard course wraps around freshwater
lagoons, through a maritime forest and across dunes overlooking the
Atlantic ocean. Simply put, a more challenging and scenic seaside
golf course does not exist in the Carolinas.
