Computer games that require large amounts of "upstream" and "downstream" data transfer will function better with a symmetric DSL Internet connection than with an asymmetric DSL line.  SDSL is generally more stable than ADSL since upload and download speeds are symmetric.

Historically, computer gamers have opted for ADSL Internet access over SDSL for cost reasons.  The price of SDSL Internet connectivity, however, has fallen dramatically in recent years and is now comparable to ADSL service.

Although cable Internet access also supports high-speed data transfer in both directions, the data transfer speed can vary from minute to minute, depending on the volume of people using the Internet in a given area.  SDSL, by comparison, uses a dedicated telephone line from your home to the telephone exchange and is therefore not impacted by other Internet usage in the vicinity.
