| EndNote X1- Library Crashing Issue |
We have identified a specific issue with Windows EndNote X1 where attempting to open a library causes EndNote X1 to crash.
This issue appears to be caused primarily by corrupt third party files in the "Temporary Files" folder. If there are files in this folder without a proper "date modified," EndNote X1 will fail to open any library. We are aware of this issue, and will post any news here when a more permanent solution to the issue is created.
As a workaround for this issue, clearing the Temporary Files should allow you to open a library.
Note : While you can clear your temporary files, the third party program may create the same problem file after you use that third party program. You would need to do the steps below again to clear the error.
We have found the following to be the most effective method clearing the temporary files.
Deleting Temporary files
-
Quit all open programs
-
Open your temporary folder directly.
Vista:
C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Local\Temp
XP/2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\*USERNAME*\Local Settings\Temp
Note: If you cannot find the specified folder, your Windows preferences may be set to hide the folder. In Windows Explorer go to Tools / Folder Options / View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
-
Remove all files from the Temp folder.
Note: If some files cannot be removed, please restart your computer and repeat the steps above.
- Open an EndNote library.
