HookOff™ and the HookOff™ System were conceived by a group of anglers over some wonderful lodge food and a few bottles of wine. Having fished together for many years, we have found ourselves becoming more and more sensitive to our environment and the great need for fisherman to be releasing fish. We all have collected, throughout the years, the fun releasing tools that have been available to us…but none of us found ourselves using them…for one reason or another. Truly, none of them allowed us to release the fish we caught without handling them…or forcing the fly deeper into the fish to allow a release. Each of us complained about the damaged flies, required dexterity or complications encountered by using the available options. We knew we could come up with an answer.

We wanted to design a releasing tool that was simple in design, easy to use and, if possible, release the fish without touching it or removing it from the water. Some of us were a bit clumsy, and for that reason it had to be easily available on our vest… and float…just in case in the act of celebration we dropped it into the water. Lastly, since we tend to tie our own flies, being sure the fly was not damaged was imperative. Admittedly it took a few more bottles of wine but finally the answer emerged…HookOff.
